 about

Hello. I'm Ms. A. Neilson. I'm an Honor Student who graduated from Florida International University (FIU) in Spring 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology/Sociology and a minor in Psychology, while on my way to graduate school for communications. I then earned a Master of Science in Mass Communication: Global Strategic Communications, with an additional Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Consensus Building in 2020. This well-rounded education will allow me a variety of opportunities to be able to pursue for contributing to the world.

FIU has given me a marvelous education so far! I had already graduated from FIU's Academy of Leaders program with Professor O'Keefe Ph.D., which helped me to feel confident and excited about opportunities for taking on additional leadership and service positions during my valuable time at FIU. Dr. O'Keefe taught me that to lead is to serve and that a good leader brings out the leader in others! I was so happy to hear her say that! This is the kind of fantastic education that FIU promotes. I feel very blessed to attend FIU and I am very thankful for the wonderful professors and faculty here. Although this is my ePortfolio, in a way it is also about the faculty and beloved professors who have brilliantly and kindly shared their wisdom and guidance with us at FIU!  It is such gifted and caring professors and faculty that make FIU great and make this wonderful education possible.

I've also graduated from the FIU: Excellence in Global Learning Medallion (GLM) Program and FIU: Peace Corps Prep (PCP) program, which I will gladly be sharing more about in this ePortfolio. Besides doing a homeless-student research report, my capstone research projects involved various aspects of creating awareness and encouraging action, (including my original research mentored by the brilliant and phenomenal Dr. Katherine Lineberger Ph.D.), and all my ongoing Global Dolphin Defense research, (for which I designed surveys, focus groups, and created a Global Dolphin-art project for inspiring Global Dolphin Defense), that also relates to ocean conservation.

I was both humbled and honored to learn from Professor Kincaid Ph.D.,  that in 2019 I was one of only a chosen few here that year invited to The Phi Beta Kappa Society, which requires even more than just a high GPA. When Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Lineberger informed me of other awards, I remember just feeling such joy that these wonderful professors say they are proud of me and my work, because I have always been so thankful in my heart for their amazing teachings and always will be. In as much as any honors or awards may highlight any of my/our ongoing work done in hopes of future opportunities for going forward further for helping other living-beings, then then I am ever so grateful for that too.

Thank you, FIU for this magnificent global learning education!

If you are here viewing this Global Learning ePortfolio because you are a current student in FIU's Global Learning program, I want you to know that it is so rewarding and worth it, and I am so glad for you

and I wish you every happiness. :-)
