Peace Corps Prep Reflection
Hello, I am glad you are here. I look forward to sharing my reflection on my Peace Corps Prep experiences thus far. It has been very exciting to be a part of Peace Corps Prep at FIU. I really enjoyed being the Guide of Team Guardians of Peace for over a year and helping to mentor some amazing and wonderful students! I was also happy to serve as Global Engagement Coordinator (Chair) on the FIU: Peace Corps Committee. This was a great time to get to know Director Penczak M.S. better, as well as the other students from various backgrounds on the committee. We all had a love for helping others and this world and got along so great together no matter which tasks we were set to do. We will always be glad for this wondrous opportunity!
Through a formal partnership with the Peace Corps national office, Peace Corps Prep at FIU is a program where students gain skills and experiences that make them competitive applicants for the Peace Corps and other international development positions.
Next, I would like to tell you about my Peace Corps Prep Global Engagement capstone project. My capstone projects involve various aspects of creating awareness (including research and designing a global art project) for Global Dolphin Defense which also relates to ocean conservation. It has been a real blessing for me that one of my favorite professors, Dr. Katherine Lineberger has mentored me for both my GLM and PCP capstone projects!
How does this tie to Peace Corps, Global Learning, or Public Service in general?
I really like to also help teach children, youths (and societies) about ocean conservation with a focus on protecting cetaceans, such as wild dolphins. This is something that can help children and youths to learn that we can enjoy nature and wildlife without having to hurt them, so they can enhance their prosocial behavior and help spread the word for conservation too. Water is something we need to drink, yet we also cannot survive without our saltwater oceans and marine life.
To see more on the Global Dolphin Defense Report's Recommended Solutions I gave, for example I suggested a Global Dolphin-art Project and then designed it myself and even created an interactive website for taking action for it which has now gone live for the final project! Please click the labeled button-bar below to visit it and see more whenever you like!
Thank you so much! :o)
